A landmark pub in Bristol which has been derelict for more than a year is to be reopened.

The Lamplighters in Shirehampton has been bought by a property group which says it wants to return it to its former glory.

The saving of the Lamplighters follows an online petition supported by North Bristol MP Charlotte Leslie.

She said it was "absolutely fantastic news" that it will be reopened as a public house.

"It's a really good community hub where all the family can come together and enjoy themselves," she said.

"It was an absolute tragedy when it closed so we set up a petition to let people express their support and that support was overwhelming."

The Churchill Property Group, which has purchased the listed building, plans to restore it over the next 12 months and find a local brewery to take over the lease on the pub.
