A plan to redevelop the County Ground in Bristol has been recommended for approval by city council planners.

A previous scheme to improve the cricket ground on Nevil Road was given planning permission in 2010.

Gloucestershire Cricket Club has scrapped a plan for a new stand off Kennington Avenue which will mean a lower capacity than the 2010 scheme.

A final decision on the plan, which includes flats, will be made by councillors on 23 November.

The one and two-bed flats would also feature underground parking.

The new plan is for 7,500 permanent seats, rather than the 18,500 in the previous scheme.

The club said it would be able to increase the capacity to 17,500 through the use of temporary seating.

And scrapping plans for a stand backing on to houses on Kennington Avenue was good for residents, the club added.

The plan attracted 51 letters of objection from members of the public and 56 supporting it.
