Keynsham traffic system plans go on display

Plans for a new traffic system in Keynsham town centre near Bristol are to go on display to the public.

It is part of Bath and North East Somerset Council's £34m regeneration proposal which includes a new library, new streets, shops and council offices.

The work in Keynsham is set to begin in August and Wilmott Dixon Construction has been chosen to carry out the design, demolition and construction.

Local people are invited to The Centre in Keynsham to view the proposals.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to read recent traffic surveys and studies and see a computer simulated "fly-through" of the traffic management plans.

The centrepiece of the council's proposals to improve traffic flow in the town is a one-way system southbound on the High Street via Ashton Way.

Councillor Roger Symonds, cabinet member for transport, said: "Getting the highways aspect of this project right is absolutely crucial to the long-term success of regenerating Keynsham town centre."

A planning application will be submitted for the scheme and a further exhibition of the overall proposals will be held in the spring.

The plans will be displayed between 12:30 and 19:00 GMT on Tuesday.
