Police have launched an investigation after a horse was stabbed in a field near Bristol.

Rikki, a 16-year-old bay gelding, was attacked in the field between Keynsham and Saltford on Sunday at about midnight.

His owner, Kirsty Shearn from Warmley, found him with blood pouring from an eight-inch gash to his right hind leg.

Avon and Somerset Police are investigating and are urging anyone with information to contact them.

Ms Shearn said: "It's just scary that somebody would attack a horse by himself in his field. It's terrible."
