Etchings by Bristol artist Mary Rouncefield are to go on show at an exhibition in New York City to mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

Ms Rouncefield's great uncle Edward Harris was a steward on the Titanic, and was killed in the disaster at the age of 18.

Ms Rouncefield said she had tried "to imagine what had happened when Titanic sank and to portray the story in a simple way".

Ms Rouncefield is the only artist from outside the USA to have been asked to exhibit at the exhibition, which is being held at the Noble Maritime Collection, Staten Island, from 15 April.

Ms Rouncefield's grandmother lost her fiance, as well as her brother, in the disaster. It was when she was looking through her grandmother's belongings after she died that Ms Rouncefield discovered the full story.

Ms Rouncefield received an email from the exhibition's organisers in New York City asking if they could display her art after they saw it on her website.

Screen prints and etchings by Ms Rouncefield will also be displayed at a Titanic exhibition at the Etching Guild in Riga, Latvia.
