Mayoral referendum: Bristol council's call over leaflet

People in Bristol are being urged to let the council know if they have not received a leaflet about the mayoral referendum on 3 May.

The booklet was supposed to have been delivered to all addresses in the city by the end of March.

Councillor Gary Hopkins said: "We want people to complain if they've not had the leaflet so we can send one out to them."

If Bristol votes "yes" for a mayor an election will be held in November.

Many homes in places such as Clifton, Henleaze, Bedminster and Bishopston have not received the literature.

Mr Hopkins, the acting chair of Bristol City Council's democracy committee which approved the leaflet, blamed Royal Mail for failing to get the leaflet to all addresses in the city.

"Royal Mail only deliver to whole postcodes and some are split across the city boundary so some (households) outside the city got leaflets while others inside didn't," he said.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "We are not aware of any problems with door-to-door deliveries in the Bristol area for our customer, Bristol City Council."
