Bath public transport improvement scheme given go ahead

A £27m public transport improvement scheme in Bath is to go ahead after receiving final approval by the government.

The government will contribute £11m to the scheme designed to reduce city congestion and improve accessibility.

It includes the expansion of three park and ride sites, more real time information for passengers and an active traffic management system.

The improvement work is scheduled to be completed by September 2014.

The package is being overseen by Bath and North East Somerset Council.

Local Transport Minister Norman Baker who granted final approval for the scheme, said: "This is a great scheme that will reduce congestion, improve journeys for bus passengers and make it easier to reach this historic city by public transport."
