Bath green belt homes plan approved by councillors

Plans to build thousands of homes on green belt land in and around Bath have been approved by councillors.

Bath and North East Somerset Council has given the go-ahead for 12,700 homes to be built on brownfield and greenfield sites by 2029.

A previous figure of 11,500 had been proposed, but a government planning inspector found it did not address the area's needs and requested more.

The revised plans will go back to the inspector for approval.

People are being invited to comment on the plans through a six-week consultation which begins later this month.

Further to the previous plans, external approved by the council, an extra 1,370 homes have now been earmarked for development in the following areas:

  • Odd Down, Bath; 300 homes

  • Weston, Bath; 300 homes

  • Extension to MoD Ensleigh; 120 homes

  • East Keynsham; 250 homes

  • South West Keynsham; 200 homes

  • Whitchurch; 200 homes

The council hopes its housing plan will be approved by the government in May.
