One of 80 giant Gromit statues that form a public arts trail around Bristol is back on display after its tail was smashed off by vandals.

The 5ft (1.5m) statue called Poetry in Motion was designed by actress Joanna Lumley.

Gromit Unleashed, which runs for 10 weeks over summer, is raising money for the Bristol Children's Hospital.

The statue on College Green will be taken into Bristol Cathedral each night to keep it safe.

"This is about healing - the whole appeal it's about making things better - and Gromit is now entirely better and back on his feet," said Harry Marshall, the creative director of Icon Films who asked Joanna Lumley to decorate the Gromit.

"Gromit now has the most beautiful kennel to go back to - he's got the cathedral - so he should be safe."

Other designs include those from Sir Quentin Blake, Cath Kidston, One Direction's Zayn Malik, The Beano and Harry Hill.
