South Gloucestershire Council gives Filton Concorde airfield £1m

A permanent home for Concorde at Filton Airfield has been given £1m by South Gloucestershire Council.
The money has been pledged to the Bristol Aero Collection Trust towards developing a £13m aerospace museum and learning centre at the former airfield.
The centre will tell the history of the region's aerospace sector from The Bristol Aeroplane Company to the designing and building of Concorde.
It will also house Concorde 216, which has been kept at Filton since 2003.
The council said it anticipated the majority of the cash would come from increased business rates generated by the development of the Filton site.
Iain Gray, chairman of Bristol Aero Collection Trust, said: "I am delighted that South Gloucestershire Council has made this substantial contribution to the Bristol Aerospace Centre as it will make a huge difference to the project's momentum."
