Charlotte Leslie MP demands action over Avonmouth flies
- Published
The plight of Avonmouth residents who are living with a "plague of flies" has been raised in the Commons by Bristol North West MP Charlotte Leslie.
The Tory MP attacked the Environment Agency for saying that the infestation was "not a problem", and demanded the government take the issue seriously.
At Prime Minister's Questions David Cameron acknowledged people in the area had "suffered unacceptably".
The Environment Agency said it would work with Ms Leslie on the issue.
On 5 June waste recycling firm Boomeco was stripped of its permission to operate at Avonmouth Dock after the Environment Agency found it was responsible for a series of fly infestations. The firm was storing bales of waste at the dockside prior to export.
