Bristol Rovers has denied the club has been sold, following reports that talks had been held with a group of overseas investors.

It follows a report in the Bristol Post that the club has spoken to American investors, external about a potential sale.

A club spokesman said informal talks had been held, external, but there had been no offer for the club and was no agreement to sell it.

He said the situation could change in the future.

The spokesman said the board of directors had "made no secret of their intention" to secure investment in the club.

"If a potential buyer were to approach us with the right offer, made for the right reasons, we would obviously consider this offer," he said.

"At this moment in time there has been no offer. However, this situation may change in the future."

He said the club had a "very clear, ambitious plan to move the club forward" and was "actively looking for new directors with expertise".

He added the plan was dependent on new or increased investment.

Bristol Rovers were promoted back to League Two a season after being relegated, when they beat Grimsby Town in the Conference Play-Off Final at Wembley in May.
