There are issues with the heating system at the prison

Prisoners have been left without heating and hot water for around three weeks due to issues with the heating system at a prison.

Staff at HMP Bristol said it was "working urgently" to resolve the heating issues which are affecting some wings.

The prison has sourced additional, small heaters for the affected wings.

"Prisoners are being provided with extra blankets, jumpers and flasks of hot water," a spokesperson said.

It comes after spells of snow in the city, and freezing conditions across the country.

Temperatures in Bristol dropped to a low of -2C this morning, and they are expected to drop even further on Wednesday with a low of -5C.

A level 3 Cold Weather Alert issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) covering all of England is currently in place until 09:00 GMT on 16 December.
