The Great Western Railway lines between Bath and Bristol wall face disruptions and periods of no services

Railway services will be affected by improvement works this weekend.

No Great Western Railway (GWR) trains will run between Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa from 7-8 October and 22 October.

Replacement buses will be put in place and valid rail tickets can be used on specific bus routes while "vital drainage work" is carried out.

Network Rail project manager Tom Hounslow has thanked passengers for their patience.

Valid rail tickets can be used on the 9, X39, 1, 5, U5 or 349 buses, GWR advised.

Services from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads will continue to run but will not stop at Bath Spa or Chippenham.

Other services between London Paddington to Bath Spa will run up until 19:30 BST on 7 October.

'Maintain reliable services'

Shuttle trains will then run between Swindon and Bath Spa after 19:30 BST on Saturdays and all day on Sundays.

Other trains will continue to operate Bath Spa and Westbury, Frome, Weymouth or Portsmouth Harbour.

GWR's Bath Spa station manager Oana Apetroaie said the improvement work "will enable us to maintain safe and reliable services".

"This forms part of an ongoing programme of investment in our railway," she said.

"We are providing alternative road transport and rail tickets can also be used on some local bus services in the area to allow passengers to continue their journeys with as little inconvenience as possible."

Mr Hounslow said: "It's really important that this work is done in a timely fashion to ensure that the railway is resilient and can cope with adverse weather."
