A family-run sandwich business has won £100,000 having scooped top prize in a restaurant of the year awards ceremony.

Bristol's Sandwich Sandwich held off competition from across the UK and Ireland to be crowned champion by a panel of judges including Prue Leith and Monica Galetti.

The independent business said it will use the prize money to expand into more cities.

Josh Kleiner, 23, who helps run the business said it was "wonderful".

Mr Kleiner, who runs the company with his dad and brother, said: "Me, my dad and my brother, we get up at 1am every day to make Sandwich Sandwich what it is.

"Its a labour of love, we love what we do, it is something that almost doesn't feel like work."

The firm has five shops in Bristol and now has plans to expand into London.

Mr Kleiner said: "We have massive ambitions for the future, we want to be in London, we want to be all over the UK.

"We want to set a standard for a lunchtime offering that isn't currently available - where you can meet high quality with good value.

"Its very hard to find nowadays and it's the reason why our customers are exceptionally loyal."

'Wonderful experience'

Great British Bake Off judge and food critic Prue Leith, praised Sandwich Sandwich's imagination and inventiveness as she chose them as the winner of the competition run by Uber Eats.

Mr Kleiner said: "Its been a wonderful experience from start to finish - even from the voting day, to meeting the judges, they've all been so welcoming.

"It has been an experience we'll never forget and we're so grateful to our team, our customers who are exceptionally loyal, and we wouldn't change it for the world."

Mr Kleiner said social media has played a part in the restaurant's success, enabling more people to become aware of what it offers.

"Sandwich Sandwich has the potential to be all across the UK, every major city deserves a Sandwich Sandwich," he continued.

"People are struggling, we're in a cost of living crisis - our sandwiches are not only the best quality but the best value.

"We will never change through expansion we have our morals, our ethos. We want to be on every street corner".
