Bristol girl, 10, completes challenge to raise more than £1,000 for foodbank

A 10-year-old girl has raised more than £1,000 for a foodbank after completing a month-long pogo challenge.

Luna, from Bristol, jumped on a pogo stick 1,000 times every day in November as part of her Jumping Bean challenge.

The money raised will be donated to Bristol North West Foodbank, where she volunteers in her spare time.

Luna's father, Matt, said: "Every time we thought she was going to get too tired, she wouldn't stop."

When she was seven-years-old, Luna embarked on her first fundraising challenge when she spent 45-days swimming the length of the English Channel at a local pool.

She has also cycled the distance between Land's End and John O'Groats on an exercise bike to raise money for charity.

During lockdown, Luna became aware of people living in Bristol who are experiencing food poverty.

She began volunteering at the foodbank and has worked with the senior leadership team to install a permanent donation point.

In 2022, she was honoured at BBC Radio Bristol's Make A Difference Awards, where she won in the Fundraiser category following a nomination from the foodbank team.

Speaking about the Jumping Bean pogo challenge, Luna said: "I wanted to do something different. I absolutely love pogoing so it was a very fun challenge."

Luna began the challenge on 1 November and jumped 30,000 times over the course of the month in her home, whilst wearing a Heinz beans costume.

"It helps [the foodbank] out. If you give the money to them, they can get the essentials", she said.

Patricia, Luna's mother, said: "We're very proud of her. She's done an amazing job and she loves raising money for the food bank.

"It means a lot to her", she added.

A spokesperson from the Bristol North West Foodbank said: "Luna is a fearless and passionate advocate for the foodbank - she exemplifies our volunteer role of 'Junior Champion' and is an inspiration and encouragement for many of the adults involved with the foodbank."
