Bristol Steiner School to close due to 'untenable' situation

A Steiner school has said it will permanently close next year due to an "untenable" financial situation.
Bristol Steiner School and Kindergarten will shut its doors at the end of the academic year in July 2024.
The school said the closure resulted from the combined impact of the Covid pandemic, the cost of living crisis and lower student numbers.
Joint administrators at Leonard Curtis will help manage the premises during the final two terms.
The school in Redland Hill has been in the area for 50 years, offering what it called a "child-centred, relational approach to learning".
A Bristol Steiner School and Kindergarten spokesperson said: "Over many years the school has been supported by the generosity of friends, charities and the global Steiner Waldorf movement enabling the school to provide high quality education.
"Sadly, the recent decline in current student numbers has made the financial situation untenable."
'Heartfelt thanks'
The school will continue to be led by the senior management team.
"We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many families, pupils, ex-pupils, teachers, team leaders, and friends of the school for their support and generosity that have contributed to the schools' success over five decades," they added.
A notice on Bristol Steiner School's website said Leonard Curtis was appointed as joint administrators with effect from 14:01 GMT on 13 December 2023.
The notice added the school was continuing to trade under the supervision of the joint administrators.
