Nelson Street car park could be replaced by student flats

Plans have been submitted for the redevelopment of a multi-storey car park.
A company which bought Nelson Street car park in November has submitted proposals to demolish the structure and replace it with student accommodation.
It would be replaced by a 20-storey building with 565 student beds under the plans.
Downing the new owners of the building said the scheme would bring "health and wellbeing benefits" to the area.
It has not yet submitted a formal application but planning documents detail what the company has in mind.
In the proposal, the firm's agents said the building will have a low environmental impact, and included solar panels, air-source heat pumps, and would make improvements to the street scene.
Downing's agents, town planners Stride Treglown, said the plans would not have a significant effect on the environment so it should not have to compile a report assessing the impact of the revamp, which would be required if officers disagree.
In a letter to the council, the company said: "The site offers a unique opportunity to promote a highly-sustainable redevelopment in a key part of the city centre."
Stride Treglown added that students would be required to agree not to bring vehicles into the area during their occupancy period, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
