The attack took place in Castle Park in the centre of Bristol

Part of a Bristol city centre park is cordoned off after a woman was raped in the early hours of the morning.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers went to Castle Park just before 03:00 GMT following reports of the attack.

The male suspect, who was wearing black clothes, is described as white, approximately 5ft 9in tall with short brown hair.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras as part of their investigation.

"Officers attended at the time and spoke to the victim and she is now being supported by specially-trained officers from Bluestone, our specialist rape and sexual offences investigations team," a police statement said.

Officers have appealed for anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who may have information about the attack to come forward.
