The family of a 30-year-old man who died after a suspected stabbing have paid tribute to him, saying he "brought joy, happiness, laughter and protection" to those who knew him.

Aliki Mamwa, known as Alex, died in hospital after an incident in Ashley Road, in St Pauls, Bristol on 5 March.

His family said: "Alex was not troublesome, he kept himself to himself."

David Malcolm, 43, of St Marks Road in Easton, has been charged with murder.

Mr Mamwa's family said: "His presence and smile always lit up a room. Alex was always very humble.

"Alex was looking forward to fulfilling many of his life plans, unfortunately this was cut short mercilessly.

"He did not deserve for his life to be taken in such a tragic way and at such a young age."

They added: "We, his family are devastated and we will truly miss him.

"As time passes and fades away, our memories and love for him will always stay.

"The only thing we ask for is justice be served in Alex's favour."

His family are being supported by specially-trained Avon and Somerset Police officers.

Mr Malcolm, appeared in Bristol Crown Court on 11 March and will next appear at Bristol Crown Court on 29 April.
