Cabot Circus say another mini-golf venue is in the running to replace them

A popular indoor mini-golf course is being forced to close after 15 years.

Jungle Rumble, at Cabot Circus shopping centre in Bristol, will close its doors on 30 March, when its lease ends.

Its owner, Angus Wright, called the decision by the shopping centre's owners, Hammerson, "disgraceful" and "utter stupidity".

Hammerson said it wants "best-in-class" occupiers and that the unit will be replaced by another "renewed and exciting" golf-course.

The indoor crazy-golf experience consists of two 18-hole courses. It first opened in Cabot Circus in 2008.

"We took a huge gamble to put mini-golf in... and it's been a huge success," Mr Wright said.

"People love it and always have. We felt we were owed some loyalty by Hammerson for investing in them when nobody else would, and this is what we've been handed."

'Drive footfall'

Despite Jungle Rumble lining up new plans for the venue - including a sunken ship, glow in the dark UV lighting, and Formula 1 racing simulators - Hammerson have chosen not to renew the lease.

A spokesperson from Cabot Circus has revealed there are a number of golf-course centres in the running to replace Jungle Rumble.

"The vision of Cabot Circus is to be a leading, multi-purpose destination that thrives in the heart of Bristol city centre," they said.

"Social, cultural and entertainment uses are a key part of Cabot Circus, and we are just weeks away from announcing a renewed and exciting new leisure concept to complement our rich and diverse retail and restaurant offer.

"Our strategy is to attract best-in-class occupiers who can maximise the value of our spaces, drive footfall and engage new and existing audiences.

"We look forward to providing more updates soon."
