Dog with 'football' tumour dumped in Cambridge woods

A dog with a tumour the size of a football was "left to die" when it was dumped in woodland in Cambridgeshire, the RSPCA has said.

The charity wants to trace the owner of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier crossbreed found at Beech Wood, Cambridge, on 14 November.

The dog, believed to be eight to 10, was suffering from a large mammary tumour and was euthanised, it added.

RSPCA inspector Chris Nice said abandoning the dog was "disgraceful".

"The issue here is the tumour was so large, and it appears this dog was dumped at night, alone, in a wood in low temperatures

"The dog was frightened and cold. There's no excuse for not getting medical attention."

He added the tumour had become caught on sticks and branches and had started to open up.
