Peterborough council project wins top business award

A project to streamline Peterborough City Council's procurement costs, which saved the council £6m, has won a prestigious business award.

The programme has helped cut costs on room hire and catering, agency staff, and training and conferences.

It has now won a Creme de la Creme award for outstanding public sector procurement.

"This is an excellent achievement," David Seaton, the city council cabinet member for resources, said.

"It is testament to the hard work being carried out across the council to smooth and streamline the way we operate."

The chairman of the award judging panel, Simon Burgess, said: "With savings of over £6m being delivered directly through the implementation of procurement best practices, the council is putting procurement at the centre to drive commercial decisions. An example for many to follow."
