Cambridge pubs targeted by 'organised thieves'

Organised groups could be targeting pub and club-goers in Cambridge, after a spate of thefts, police say.

More than 100 incidents have been reported in the central market area of the city in the past three months.

Sgt Mike Barnshaw, from Cambridgeshire Police, said they believed groups of people from outside the city were travelling in to target people.

He said they were carrying out plain-clothed patrols in the city centre and warned people to be vigilant.

The thieves are mainly taking laptop computers, mobile phones and wallets.

Most of the reported thefts have taken place at weekends, between 20:00 and the early hours of the morning.

Police urged people to leave expensive items at home and not to leave belongings unattended.

"We are working hard to target those responsible and three people were arrested last month," Sgt Barnshaw said.
