Planners in Cambridgeshire are hoping to get up to £32m from developers as part of a scheme for 3,000 new homes to the north west of Cambridge.

Cambridge University wants to build 3,000 homes plus student accommodation on a site near Huntingdon Road.

In a report to county council's cabinet planners say money is needed from developers to pay for new roads, schools and other infrastructure plans.

Outline plans for the scheme are being discussed by the council on 12 June.

Cambridge University wants to build the homes, up to 2,000 student bedspaces, a hotel and a community centre on the site between Huntingdon Road and Madingley Road.

In the report to the council, officers say the county is seeking at least £16.9m in Section 106 agreements (used by councils to gain funding for infrastructure projects from developers) and up to £32.3m.

This includes £9.8m for a primary school, £5.9m for a secondary school and £706,125 for a waste recycling centre.

The council is also looking at the need for £7.6m for transport improvements and £1.2m for public bus transport subsidy.
