Co-op cash machine stolen in Fulbourn digger ram-raid

A stolen JCB has been used to rip a cash machine from a Co-op store in Cambridgeshire.

Police said three men wearing hooded tops and with their faces covered, carried out the robbery at about 00:50 BST in High Street, Fulbourn.

They made off in the direction of School Lane in a green Land Rover Defender which had been stolen from Offord Road, Graveley, on Wednesday.

The JCB, taken from a building site next to the shop was left at the scene.

'Burned out car'

A Land Rover, which contained a cash machine, was found in a water-filled ditch at Tydd St Mary in Lincolnshire at lunchtime.

"It has not yet been confirmed whether it is the vehicle that was used during the raid on the Co-op," police said.

"A Ford Focus RS, also believed to have been used in the crime, was found burned out in Newmarket."

Det Insp Ian Simmons said: "This ram-raid would have caused some commotion in the area so I would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or has any further information."

Police are currently investigating a number of ram-raids in the East of England where thieves have used stolen diggers to take cash machines.

They have confirmed that two raids which took place on 2 August at banks in Market Place in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, and Cornhill in Wisbech are linked.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said detectives were "keeping an open mind" about possible links with the latest raid in Fulbourn.
