Johnny Hall Peterborough crossing death: New footbridge plan
- Published
A £1.5m footbridge will be built at a Peterborough level crossing where a two-year-old boy was killed.
Network Rail is installing the bridge at Fox Covert Road in the Peakirk area of the city.
Johnny Hall was killed on the foot crossing when he was struck by a train in 2009.
The bridge will be completed in March 2014. It is one of 61 level crossings being upgraded or removed between Peterborough and Doncaster.
Preparatory work will begin in August and construction work will start early next year.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: "The surest way to improve safety at a level crossing is to close it.
"By spring next year pedestrians and cyclists will have a modern, accessible and safe way to cross the railway as part of a wider programme of work to upgrade the railway in the region."
