Barclays Littleport bank branch in closure protest

More than 100 people have gathered to protest against the closure of the "last remaining bank in town".
Some of those angered by the changes to the Barclays branch in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, dressed as superheroes and cartoon characters for the protest.
MP for North East Cambridgeshire, Steve Barclay, has written to the business secretary and Barclays, saying the decision is a "fait accompli".
Barclays said the decision to close the branch was not taken lightly.
Barclays community leader for North West Anglia, Kathryn Kitson, said customer usage had declined "which is why we have taken the difficult decision to close the branch on 9 October".
She said customers' changing banking habits were also behind the move, as more people were banking online, over the phone and on their mobiles.
Mr Barclay said: "The Littleport branch is the last remaining bank in the town, and the decision came as a shock to local residents.
"It seems that Barclays has treated the decision as a fait accompli."
East Cambridgeshire district councillor Jo Webber said campaigners would not stop fighting "until the doors close".
"It's really important we keep a branch here because the town is growing, with a new school complex coming and hundreds of new houses being built," she said.
