Eric is tame and is probably someone's exotic pet, the RSPCA said

The owners of an emu are being sought after the bird was found wandering up a driveway in Cambridgeshire.

Eric, as he has been named by the RSPCA, was going walkabout in the village of Kirtling, near Newmarket, on Saturday evening.

The inquisitive bird took a stroll along a driveway in The Street and was captured by the homeowners and kept in their stable overnight.

He is healthy and is probably someone's pet, RSPCA officer Jane Folley said.

"This must have been quite an unexpected sight for the member of the public - not the sort of animal they normally see walking up their driveway," she added.

"Birds this large can be difficult to catch so we were lucky in this case that he could be secured in the stable.

"The fact that he is this tame makes me think he is very likely to be someone's missing pet.

"We urge anyone who knows where he may have come from to call us. We would love to take Eric back home."
