Hundreds march against potential hospitals merger

Hundreds of people turned out for the march through Huntingdon

More than 400 people have turned out to protest against the possible merger of two hospitals.

The future of Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, and Peterborough and Stamford NHS Trust is under review.

Huntingdon MP Jonathan Djanogly organised the march through the town on Saturday.

He said people felt Hinchingbrooke was "under threat" and a merger was not "appropriate".

'Keep full services'

The National Audit Office revealed in December the Peterborough trust's debt was £38.5m for 2014-15. Hinchingbrooke's deficit was £11.4m.

Four proposals have been put forward by the trusts and public meetings about the hospitals' futures will be held in May.

Mr Djanogly added: "Hinchingbrooke should keep its full services."

The Huntingdon hospital was the first in the NHS to be run by a private company, but returned to NHS management in April 2015.
