A police officer has been cleared of harassment and common assault.

Cambridgeshire Police said 40-year-old Sgt Spencer Evans appeared at St Albans Crown Court on Monday, charged with one count of each offence.

The judge ruled the charges against the officer, who is based at Bridge Street Police station, should be discontinued.

Sgt Evans is currently suspended from duty "pending consideration of police misconduct matters", a spokesman for the Cambridgeshire force said.
