A disqualified driver who drove on the wrong side of the road at 120mph (190km/h) has been jailed for 17 months.

Jamie Frost, 45, was seen driving "incredibly dangerously", near Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire in November.

He led police along Frank Perkins Parkway in Peterborough, tailgating and flashing drivers at speeds above 100mph (160km/h), police said.

Frost, from South Yorkshire, was also given a further driving ban.

A white Range Rover driven by Frost, of Gloucester Road in New Rossington, near Doncaster, was first spotted being driven dangerously by an off-duty police officer on 26 November.

Police said he almost crashed while overtaking a lorry on the A1 northbound.

He left the A1 at Stibbington and drove towards Wansford along Elton Road at about 90mph (144km/h), Cambridgeshire Police said.

He drove over the narrow River Nene bridge at Wansford at about 60mph (95km/h) and almost crashed at the junction with Yarwell Road.

'No regard'

At the roundabout with the A47, Frost drove westbound along the eastbound carriageway and rejoined the correct side of the road after the crash barriers had finished.

He drove at about 100mph (160km/h), braking suddenly to close the gap on officers, as if he was going to ram them, police said.

The pursuit ended and Frost was arrested after he turned right into Old Oundle Road towards Wittering and drove into a dead end in Hillside Gardens.

During sentencing at Huntingdon Crown Court, Frost was also disqualified from driving for four years and eight months and must pass an extended re-test before he is allowed to drive again.

He received no separate penalty for driving with no insurance and no licence.

PC Chad Hall said: "Jamie Frost showed no regard for other road users by driving in this incredibly dangerous manner so I am glad he has faced justice.

"I would also like to thank my colleague for spotting Frost's suspicious behaviour in the first place."
