Somersham High Street has been reopened since the scaffolding fell just after midday

Scaffolding on a village High Street has been knocked over, hitting a bus and a powerline.

Cambridgeshire Police said it was called at about 12:35 BST to reports of toppled scaffolding caused by a lorry in Somersham.

Katie Dew, from the bus company Dews, said no passengers were on the vehicle at the time and the driver was not injured.

UK Power Networks said repair work was continuing.

Ms Dew said a lorry carrying straw "clipped" the scaffolding to make it fall.

"We're grateful nobody was hurt," she said, adding no further services were affected.

Ms Dew said the company's mechanics assisted with clearing the road and it was now open again.

A UK Power Networks spokesperson said it was called at 13:14 following "damage to an overhead line".

"From 13:20 to 14:42 power supplies were temporarily switched off to 115 properties for safety reasons and repair work continues," they added.
