Men bailed in connection with 'nasty' assault in Peterborough

A second man has been released on bail after a "nasty" assault in the street left a woman in hospital.

It took place in Church Walk off Broadway in Peterborough between 05:10 GMT and 05:40 on Saturday.

The woman was taken to Peterborough City Hospital and treated for serious injuries before being discharged.

A 33-year-old man from Peterborough was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm on Monday and released from custody on Tuesday.

He is due to return to Thorpe Wood Police Station on Monday, 8 April.

A 55-year-old man was arrested on Saturday morning also on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and was released on bail to return to Thorpe Wood on Saturday, 6 April.

Cambridgeshire Police were called to the scene at 06:45 and cordoned off the area, including closing a short section of the road.

Appealing for witnesses, Det Sgt Sarah Morgan said: "This was a nasty and sustained assault.

"We have CCTV which shows a group of people walking along Church Walk. We do not think any of them were involved but they could have information crucial to our investigation."
