The application for a car depot at the Peterborough showground has been approved by councillors

An application to officially establish a car depot on showground land has been approved by a council.

Concerns had been raised about entry points for vehicles at the DHL car depot on the old East of England showground in Peterborough.

Planning permission, granted unanimously by Peterborough City Council, lasts for three years.

The authority said developers had addressed issues raised in a retrospective planning application.

Larger changes are planned at the showground, which developers want to convert from an entertainment complex into a housing development.

They have plans for more than 1,000 homes, alongside a "leisure village" and a care home.

Planning permission must be given by councillors before any building work can start.

The DHL storage facility would occupy less than a third of the site on East of England Way, in Alwalton, and is intended to be temporary.

It has been operating at the showground for nearly a year, with developers making a retrospective planning application.

Traffic will only be allowed to enter and leave the site from Joseph Odam Way between 06:00 and 17:30, councillors agreed.

Planning conditions also state that there must not be more than 16 HGV movements in or out of the facility every day.
