A failed water pump caused flooding on a main road near Cambridge.

Police officers were called to the A428 at 06:30 BST after reports that three vehicles had crashed.

Officers said no-one was seriously injured, but the road was closed while water and debris were cleared.

National Highways said the A428 has since reopened in both directions between the A1303 and the A1198 near Cambridge.

A man said he almost came off his motorbike when driving on the flooded road earlier today.

Calvin Paul said: "The rain suddenly became torrential and severely limited my vision.

"Fortunately, I managed to slow down enough to not aquaplane when I hit the flood water under the bridge.

"Got very wet and was rather shocked, but managed to get through OK."

A police spokesperson said: "We were called to reports three vehicles had crashed and overturned on the A428 at 06:30 BST today.

"A water pump used to clear water from the carriageway had failed causing excess surface water on the road.

"Thankfully no-one has been seriously injured."

A National Highways spokesperson said: "Contractors have now cleared all the debris on the A428 following the earlier collision between the A1303 and the A1198 near Cambridge.

"Service providers have reopened the road in both directions, with residual delays in the area beginning to ease."
