A 100-year-old lido has closed for maintenance.

Jesus Green Lido in Cambridge is shut for a month and will reopen again on Saturday 4 May.

The lido lies parallel to the River Cam by Jesus Green Lock and is the joint longest pool in the UK with Tooting Bec Lido in south London.

Cambridge City Council said it the lido's planned opening hours would be from 07:00 BST to 19:00 BST from Monday to Sunday.

The lido, which closed on Tuesday, is one of the few remaining examples of the lidos built across the country in the 1920s and 30s.

It was first opened on 30 August 1923 as the Jesus Green Bath, a 100yd-long (91m) pool with two shallow ends and a deep centre.

Following the temporary closure, a spokesperson from Cambridge City Council said: "Current swimming and monthly memberships will be made valid for all other Cambridge city centres for that period."

Other pools that can be used include the Abbey Leisure Complex pools, King's Hedges Learner Pool, and Parkside Pools.
