Help for people hit by suicide in Cornwall and Scillies

A new service offering support to people affected by suicide is being set up in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The Suicide Liaison Service is being launched to coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day on Friday.

It will involve psychological therapists providing information, support and guidance via the telephone or in person to those hit by suicide.

According to NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, about 60 people in the region take their own lives each year.

Yvonne Elder, suicide liaison worker, said: "Bereavement by suicide can be particularly painful to cope with and many people who experience this type of loss find it hard to access the practical help and support they need.

"We will be available to help people deal with things such as investigations and sorting out of personal affairs, as well as liaising with the coroner's office and the police."
