A man has been charged with drink driving after a Land Rover was found crashed in a bunker at a Devon golf club.

The vehicle was discovered on its side at Royal North Devon Golf Club in Westward Ho! on Sunday.

Two people were found asleep in the vehicle, said police. One was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

A 28-year-old man will appear before North Devon Magistrates' Court on 24 September.

Golf club chairman Doug Bushby said: "The greenkeepers saw it, went down there and saw two bodies in the back and rang police.

"There is a certain amount of damage that's been done to the turf. It will be a considerable cost to repair the damage."
