Seal-chasing dog rescued from sea off Cornwall

A Labrador dog which enjoys chasing seals has sparked a sea rescue off Cornwall.

The dog's owner called the coastguard from Carbis Bay on Monday afternoon to say his dog had swum out to sea in pursuit of its quarry.

The dog swam about a quarter of a mile (400m) from the shore, coastguards said.

Coastguards asked for assistance and a dinghy from a fisheries protection vessel chased the dog back to shore.

Ken Bazeley from Falmouth Coastguard said the dog had been reunited with his owner.

He said: "What we were able to do was put out a call to see if any vessel could assist.

"As luck would have it, the fisheries protection vessel St Piran was nearby and they had a rigid inflatable they were able to launch.

"They managed to get the dog to swim back towards shore to the owner."
