Cornwall endures more snow showers and ice

Drivers are being told to be careful on untreated roads

Scattered snow showers are affecting the north and the west of Cornwall, and are heading eastwards, the Met Office has said.

Rain is also due to move in from the west later, it added.

Temperatures fell as low as -6C overnight, and highways bosses said they were concerned about icy roads as surface temperatures fell to -8C.

About 30 schools have closed for the day and a number of others opened late.

Flights restart

On the roads, there were hazardous driving conditions on the A30 Longrock Bypass between the B3311 Eastern Green and the A394 junction because of ice.

Jeremy Edwards, of the highways department, said: "People do need to be careful, particularly on untreated roads."

First Bus said most of its services were running, but that heavy snow in the Penzance area had affected routes covering Castle Gate, Mousehole Harbour, Nancledra, Praa Sands, St Erth and Treeve Lane.

Services to Land's End were running on the main road only, it added.

At Newquay Airport, some services to and from Gatwick have been cancelled. Flights to the Isles of Scilly are resuming after being cancelled on Thursday.

Cornwall Council has produced a list of affected schools.

More than 4in (10cm) of snow was reported in some areas on Thursday.
