Budget savings approved by Cornwall Council

A budget has been approved that paves the way for £170m of savings over the next four years in Cornwall.

An emergency budget passed by councillors in December was rubber-stamped at a full council meeting in Truro.

Much of the meeting was dominated by discussions about a proposed 40% cut to funding for its Supporting People budget.

But the budget was passed by 65 votes to 40 with one abstention.

The council, which plans to cut £10m from frontline services, said "hard choices" had to be made.

The budget cuts are expected to result in the loss of about 700 of the council's 20,000 jobs.
