The London 2012 Olympic torch has visited Cornwall to inspire more people to apply to carry it in a pre-games relay.

Although the first wave of nominations has closed, companies who are sponsoring the Olympics are now giving away chances to carry the torch.

The 70-day relay begins at Land's End in west Cornwall in May 2012.

The torch will be carried through the country so every British citizen is no more than an hour away from it.

The Olympic beacon visited Lemon Quay in Truro.

The team leader for the event, Vidar Eileartsen, said: "It has 8,000 holes in it to represent the number of torch bearers who are going to carry the flame from Land's End to the stadium. The torch weighs less than one kilo."

The torch will not be lit until a ceremony in July next year.
