The former head teacher of an Isles of Scilly school, suspended after allegations of financial irregularities, says he can prove all accusations against him are unfounded.

Former Five Islands School head Bryce Wilby, 46, was suspended in May.

An audit investigation was started by Cornwall Council for the Isles of Scilly Council.

Speaking to BBC Cornwall, Mr Wilby said he had "plenty of evidence" to refute "any allegations".

'Will be resolved'

The audit investigation had closed in August without Mr Wilby giving evidence because auditors said he did not respond.

It is reopening after Isles of Scilly Council chairman Mike Hicks said he would not accept any report without Mr Wilby having been given a chance to respond.

Mr Wilby said he was ready to meet investigators - but on neutral ground - and that the Diocese of Truro offered to provide a venue for a meeting.

As well as the financial allegations, an interim report into the situation said pornographic images were found on his work computer, although none of them were illegal.

Mr Wilby said his life since his suspension had been "very difficult" and he was "still trying get his head around everything that has happened".

He said: "All of it is completely strange and bizarre, and all of it can be countered.

He added: "In the long-term, it will turn out correctly for me.

"Accusations stick but, at the end of the day, it will be quite clear that I have not done anything that I shouldn't have.

"Eventually it will be resolved, it's just a matter of getting it through the time."

Mr Wilby said he was also considering claiming unfair dismissal because he believed he was dismissed while still serving out his notice of resignation.
