Redruth grammar school's mulberry tree transplanted

A 100-year-old tree has been transplanted as part of a £3.7m redevelopment project in Cornwall.

The mulberry tree has been moved from a courtyard at Redruth's old grammar school.

About 100 artists, designers and musicians currently use the buildings at the site.

The project will create two new building with plans for a further 100 people to be based at the former school.

The tree has been moved 500ft (152m) away from its original plot, but has remained on the site.

The project, which is expected to be completed in early 2015, has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund Convergence Programme and private sources.

The former school, which opened in 1907, closed in the early 2000s.

Creative businesses started to move into the building in 2005.

The Cornwall Film Festival and Miracle Theatre are based at the former school known as Krowji, which means workshop in Cornish.

The tree was moved away from its original plot, but remains on the site
