Cornwall culture tourism 'brings in £180m'

Gallery Tate St Ives is among the county's attractions for art lovers

Cultural tourism brings at least £180m into Cornwall's economy every year, according to Visit Cornwall.

It says holidaymakers heading to the county because of its literature, artists and galleries, like Tate St Ives, account for 10% of visitors.

The figures came as Visit Cornwall launched a 10-year campaign to get more holidaymakers out of season.

The tourism board wants to build on events like the Fowey Festival and Arts Trail.

Malcolm Bell, head of Visit Cornwall, said: "Cultural tourism has got a lot of potential and there's been a lot of growth in it around Europe.

"We are at the start of a strong campaign."
