ShelterBox founder Tom Henderson charged with fraud

The founder of the aid charity ShelterBox has been charged with three counts of fraud.

Tom Henderson, 63, from Helston in Cornwall, has been charged with three counts of fraud by abuse of position.

He has also been charged with the attempted theft of property.

Mr Henderson founded the Cornwall-based charity in 2000 and was appointed OBE in 2010 for services to humanitarian aid. He left the charity in July 2012 and was arrested a year later.

Mr Henderson has been charged with one count of fraud by abuse of position in which he is alleged to have conspired with his son John Henderson.

He has been charged with another count of fraud by abuse of position in which he is alleged to have conspired with his son and Darren Gervis, 41, from Beaminster, Dorset.

Mr Henderson has also been charged with a third count of fraud by abuse of position in which he is alleged to have misused a credit card.

His son John Henderson, 32, from Hayle, was also charged with the theft of property, possession of a shotgun without a firearms certificate and possession of a section one firearm.

The Hendersons and Mr Gervis are expected to appear at the City of London Magistrates' Court on 4 September.
