Two buildings have been completely destroyed in a major fire at a leisure complex at a holiday resort.

The fire at Carvynick Country Club in Summercourt, near Newquay, broke out in the early hours.

Residents reported seeing "smoke blowing across the road" as more than 40 firefighters tackled the blaze.

Police and paramedics also attended the scene but no-one is believed to be injured, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said.

Bethany Fowler, director at Kernow Gymnastics and Acro Academy, which is based at the resort, said the gym had been "completely burnt to the ground, with the loss of at least £100,000 worth of equipment".

The managers of the park said guests due to stay at the resort over the next few weeks will be kept "fully updated".

An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
