A man from Essex has travelled to Cornwall to collect long-lost memorabilia that belonged to his aunt and uncle.

While renovating their new bungalow in Dobwalls, Rosie Harkon and Ryan Burke found piles of old photos in the eaves.

They set up a TikTok account to document the renovation and one video gained more than seven million views.

Gary Faux is the nephew of Eric and Margaret Mailes, who lived in the property previously.

Mr Faux and his wife Sue were alerted to the find by a notification on family history site Ancestry and also by the vicar who married them at St James the Less church in Hadleigh, Essex.

The ashes of his aunt and uncle are interred in the same church.

Mr Faux said the vicar said she had seen the story on BBC News and recognised the name of one of the people mentioned.

The Fauxs said they enjoyed looking through the old photographs, which featured many family members.

Mrs Faux called them "treasured memories".

Mr Faux added: "I'm not sure everybody would have done that, because obviously Rosie's good with the social media side of things, and it worked very quickly."

Ms Harkon said it was "wonderful" to meet Mr and Mrs Faux.

She said: "I feel like I know about them already and it's lovely to know about Eric and Margaret, and find out more and how much they loved the house."
