A landslip in a Cornish seaside town has led to emergency repairs to be carried out.

The incident was reported on Wednesday in Polperro Road, Looe, where a large amount of soil had fallen onto the road.

It happened after Cornwall was battered by heavy rainfall, with a weather warning and flood warnings issued.

Workmen were called to the scene with temporary traffic lights installed.

Armand Toms, Cornwall Councillor for Looe East and Deviock, posted about the landslip on social media and urged people to avoid the area.

He said a lorry from civil engineers Cormac happened to be nearby at the time of the incident and workmen were able to move some of the landslip back to stop traffic being blocked.

Mr Toms said landslips were an ongoing concern in the town and an issue which needed to be sorted, especially with the current weather conditions.

"Everything in the town is sodden and I think we've had three landslips in the last four or five months," he told BBC Radio Cornwall.
